"The Bodu Bala Sena (BSS) was formed, bred and maintained by Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, who had communal and extremist ideas, and I always detested his brand of politics," Social Empowerment, Welfare and Kandyan Heritage Minister S.B. Dissanayake said.
He was addressing the gathering at a ceremony held at the IMS Institute, Kandy on June 12 to mark the inauguration of a Korean Language Training Course. "If the BSS is behind communal and religious tensions at present, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa may be aiding and abetting it," he said.
Dissanayake said it was Gotabhaya, who denied the party of minority community votes. He said Shylocks, who lend money at high interest to people were born in the rural areas due to the mismanagement of the Samurdhi Movement by former Minister Basil Rajapaksa, who had been surrounded by a handful of henchmen without any proper understanding about the working of the movement.
Dissanayake said Gotabhaya and Basil were responsible for Mahinda Rajapaksa's defeat at the Presidential Election. The minister said minor problems were inevitable in a consensus government formed by two major parties. He said he too was personally against the amalgamation of the NLB to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, but the decision may have been taken by the President on the initiative of the Prime Minister. He said the John Amaratunga incident was negligent but certain quarters were blowing it up and misusing it to attack the government.(Daily News)
