Police Intelligence personnel have received information to the effect that various commemorative events have been planned in the North to honour terrorist
leaders of the LTTE under the guise of observing War Heroes (Maaveerar) week which falls later this week.
Maaveerar Naal was declared Great Heroes' Week by LTTE leader Prabhakaran in 1991.
Police sources said information received pointed to plans by several Tamil MPs in the North to honour the LTTE leaders who had died, during the war in the North and the East, on 18 May.
They said these MPs had also planned some events of this nature at the Jaffna Library.
However, a Senior Police Officer stated that all Police Stations in both Provinces have been alerted to the staging of such events which seek to glorify the terrorists despite the fact that this has been expressly banned in the country. The source said anyone flouting this law will be arrested.(ceylontoday.lk)
