SATYAGRAHA FOR NEARLY 100 DAYS

Some of the relatives of missing persons engaged in a Satyagraha campaign for nearly 100 days opposite the Governor’s office in Trincomalee protesting over the failure by the authorities to provide information about their loved ones jumped into the sea saying it was pointless for them to live any longer but they were rescued by another group engaged in the Satyagraha yesterday morning. The group of relatives waded into the water and began to hurl abuse against the government for its failure to heed their request.

Two ‘selfie’ taking siblings hit by train

Two siblings aged 25 and 12 died after being hit by a train while taking ‘selfies’ between Kollupitiya and Bambalapitiya at around 5.40 pm yesterday,” Police said.


The deceased have been identified as residents of Anuradhapura. Police said the 12 year old boy died on the spot while his brother died after being admitted to the National Hospital in a critical condition.

They were hit by an Aluthgama bound train from Colombo Fort which left the Kollupitiya railway station around 5.31pm yesterday. (Daily News)
