Govt. to fine dog dumpers

Cabinet has approved a proposal to increase the fine on the owners of dogs dumped on the street, the Government information department said today.

The Government said that the Registration of Dogs Ordinance No. 25 of 1901 will be amended to address difficulties faced by the public due to stray dogs.

Accordingly, a proposal made by Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faiszer Musthapa to instruct the Legal Draftsman to amend the ordinance to make provisions to increase the fine on owners of dogs dumped on the street to Rs. 25,000 and the imprisonment to two years, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. Sri Lanka will not join ICC: PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe assured that the government had not agreed to join an International Criminal Court (ICC), to bring in foreign judges to Sri Lankan Courts and appoint a Hybrid Court since they are against the government’s policy as well as the policy of the Asian governments.
