IFTHAR AT PRESIDENT’S HOUSE

President Maithripala Sirisena hosted the Iftar Dinner for the Muslims observing the daily Ramadan fast at the President’s House last night. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Ministers Faizer Mustapha, Ravi Karunanayake, Rishard Bathuideen, State Minister A.H.M.Fowzie, President’s Secretary P.B.Abeykoon, Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and large group of Muslim religious leaders and devotees were present.The Muslim religious leaders and devotees present on the occasion also praised the action taken by the President to usher national integration and reconciliation in the country.(Daily News)

24-hour train strike called off

The 24-hour strike scheduled to be launched by the Locomotive Engineering Operators from midnight has been called off, Locomotive Engineering Operators’ Union (LEOU) said. Speaking to the Daily Mirror LEOU Secretary Indika Dodangoda said the decision was taken following a request made by Prime Minister's Secretary Saman Ekanayake.
