Lankan spikers out to give of their best

Sri Lanka men and women spikers left the island on Monday for Nepal to compete at the 13th South Asian Games. Though the formal Games are scheduled to commence on December 1 the spikers had to leave as the Volleyball Championship is set to begin in Kathmandu today.

Six teams India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bangladesh have confirmed their participation. These six teams have been drawn into two groups with India, Bangladesh and Nepal playing in Group ‘A’ and, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Maldives in Group ‘B’. The Sri Lankan women too are placed in Group ‘B’ along with Maldives and Pakistan. Group ‘A’ has hosts Nepal, India and Bangladesh.

The Sri Lankan men’s team is led by Deeptha Romesh and the women’s by Ashani Chamodika. The men’s spikers are coached by Cuban Manuel Thores and he will be assisted by Saman Chandrasekera. The women’s team too is coached by a Cuban Roberto Sapero who is assisted by Janaka Indrajith. The officials in charge of the tour party are Chef de Mission K.R.D.C. Ratnamudali, physio Amila Wijepala and team manager Chandana Wijesinghe.

WOMENS TEAM: Ashani Chamodika (Capt), Thilini Vasana (Vice Capt), Shachini Charuka, Dilusha SAnjeevani, Dilukshi Harshani, Nimeshika Sewwandi, Naduni Himansala, Aruna Wasanthi, Ruwani Yhakshala, Anunthara Sandamali, Kavisha Lakshami, Apsara Sewmali Aruni Kaushalya.
