The world's largest lithium ion battery has begun providing electricity into the power grid in South Australia. The project is a collaboration between the state government, American firm Tesla, and Neoen, a French energy company.

Labour Minister and SLPA in tug of war over H’tota Port workers

The Labour Minister yesterday waded into the issue of 458 workers employed by the Magampura Port Management Company (MPMC) being issued a controversial circular by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), with him arguing that it was tantamount to a termination of service, while the SLPA countered that the document was simply “misunderstood”.

IOM commends SL’s leadership in migration

International Organization for Migration (IOM) Director-General Ambassador William Lacy Swing, addressing the 108th Session of the IOM Council in Geneva, on Wednesday (November 29), commended the Sri Lankan government for its leadership in migration issues and observed “our bilateral cooperation has grown exponentially over the last few years, but particularly in this year.” Referring to Sri Lanka's role in the regional consultative processes—as until recently, Chair of the Colombo Process (CP), and presently, as Chair of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue (ADD), he thanked Ambassador Ravinatha Aryasinha for his leadership in steering a number of activities that has strengthened the relationship between the Mission in Geneva and the IOM.
