The discovery of the remains of a dinosaur in Egypt's Western Desert, a new species of long-necked herbivore about the size of a city bus, could be the first of several new desert finds, experts say.

Sonu Nigam has had his fair share of controversies in recent times, with his statements on the use of loudspeakers for Azaan. Now, it looks like he might have drawn the ire of a terrorist outfit for his comments. According to reports, Sonu is on the hit list of terrorist organization Lashkar-E-Taiba. Apparently, Maharashtra State Intelligence Department has advised Mumbai Police to notch up the security for the singer and two BJP leaders who might be the targets of the terrorist group.


Anora special screening

Award winning stage drama director’s latest film ‘Anora’ will be having a special screening at the National Film Corporation’s Tharangani Hall recently. The movie is produced by Chris Wickramasinghe on behalf of A U M Films. Don Premadasa, Sarath Podinilame, Pulasthi Bethmage, Priyantha Kaluarachchi and Sunil Dissanayake also comprise the production team.


Those behind Mahendran’s appointment SLFP wants action taken

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) claimed that action should be taken against those who spearheaded the appointment of the former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, instead of focusing attention on his impending arrest. Minister of Science, Technology and Research Susil Premajayantha, responding to media queries yesterday (6) said two possible routes could be taken with regard to Mahendran, if the former Governor, who is accused of colluding with and divulging sensitive information to external parties in violation of various laws, does not return to the country from Singapore. The Colombo Fort Magistrate, earlier last week, hearing a complaint filed in connection with the issuance of Treasury Bonds at the Central Bank, named Mahendran as a suspect in the case and issued notice on him, to make an appearance before 15 February.


Remove civic rights of those convicted - JVP

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) agrees that a person who is convicted of corruption charges should be banned for life from contesting at a Presidential election or a General election, Chief Opposition Whip and JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said in Parliament yesterday.


Nazeer sworn in as MP Fills vacancy left by MHM Salman

A.L.M. Nazeer was sworn in as a Member of Parliament, from the UNP National List, before Speaker Karu Jayasuriya yesterday (6). He will fill the National List vacancy created by the recent resignation of M.H.M. Salman. Salman handed over his resignation letter to the Secretary General of Parliament, Dhammika Dasanayake on 18 January.
