Acting Assistant Secretary Wells yesterday visited the St. Anthony’s Shrine in Kochchikade, one of the churches bombed by Muslim extremists on 21 April, and laid a wreath in remembrance of the victims.
The envoy assured that the US continues to work with Sri Lanka and partners around the world to fight terrorism.
Acting Assistant Secretary Wells is expected to meet Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, top government officials, the business community, and civil society organizations during her stay in Colombo.
The President’s Office meanwhile said there was no scheduled meeting between the visiting US envoy and President Maithripala Sirisena.
Wells is visiting Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka on a regional tour which kicked off on 6 August and ends on 16 August.
