Postal Department mobilised to aid essential services

The Postal Department will be mobilised to aid in a range of public services from today under a directive by Information and Mass Media Minister Bandula Gunawardana.

According to a press release by the Information Department, all Post Offices are to remain open for a few hours during curfew breaks to help the public obtain their services.

Further, the Postal Department has been instructed to assign postmen to deliver medicine packages, which will be issued by clinics affiliated to public hospitals, to patients who are currently undergoing treatment.

Each clinic has been instructed to package the necessary medicines per prescription issued to patients registered at the clinic and send them to the Provincial Post Masters to ensure smooth delivery.

The Postal Services have also been directed to make available all vehicles at their disposal to the respective District Secretaries, to be used to deliver essential items for the people in each region.

They are also to make available any Post Office which the Secretaries deem necessary to store and deliver goods to the public.
