Professor Mohan Munasinghe, who shared the 2007 Nobel Prize for Peace, exchangedwarm greetings with Academician Fidel Castro Diaz Balart (son of Fidel Castro), Vice President of the Cuban Science Academy, when they both delivered opening plenary keynote speeches at the World Science and Engineering Congress during the EXPO 2017 exhibition, which was opened recently in Astana, Kazakhstan by His Excellency President Nazarbayev.
The gathering was attended by about 1500 top international scientists,decisionmakers, business CEOs and civil society leaders.Prof. Munasinghe had discussions with senior Kazakh officials and signed several agreements with leading Kazakh research and training organisations on behalf of the Munasinghe Institute for Development (MIND) and MIND Group, for scientific and technical collaboration on sustainable development and climate change. He also visited the Sri Lanka pavilion at EXPO 2017, as a special guest. He is Chairman of MINDin Colombo,Chairman of the President’s Expert Committee on Sri Lanka Vision 2030, and Distinguished Guest Professor at Peking University, China.
