Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama met with the President of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Yasushi Akahoshi last week, and discussed cooperation activities to boost trade and investment between the two countries.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of New Champions. The Minister discussed holding an investor forum in Tokyo in partnership with JETRO, as a follow-up to the highly successful event held in March 2018 which generated much Japanese investor interest.
Last year, the think-tank of JETRO - the Institute for Developing Economies (IDE) co-organised an informative seminar on ‘Global Value Chains and Standards for Trade in Asia’, in partnership with the Ministry. JETRO is a government-related organization promoting mutual trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world. The organization also helps foreign companies with their entry and expansion activities in Japan.
