Fine to be increased to Rs 100,000

A minimum of Rs 100,000 fine has been proposed to the Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Act for non declaration of assets and liabilities. The current penalty for such offence is Rs 1,000.

Uni non-academics strike enters 22nd day

The strike launched by State University non-academics enters its 22nd successive day today (21) following failed discussions with the responsible authorities Chairman of the University Trade Union Joint Committee, Edward Malwattage, speaking to Ceylon Today said that on 18 March, the Minister of Higher Education Kabir Hashim had assured them of a financial allocation, following a Cabinet discussion in this regard. The Union was subsequently asked to continue further discussions with State Minister of Higher Education Mohan Lal Grero.
