Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala yesterday (5) announced that the Parliamentary Privileges Committee (PPC) would hold an investigation into the Joint Opposition MPs' allegation that they had to face obstacles when coming to Parliament to participate in the second reading of the Appropriation Bill 2018.
This decision was taken following JO MP Dinesh Gunawardena's complaint, the Deputy Speaker said. Gunawardena had said that the issue could be referred to the Privileges Committee.
On 9 November, when there was a petrol shortage in the country, Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and a group of the JO MPs arrived at the Parliament on bicycles.
Dinesh Gunawardena on the same day complained that they had to use push cycles to come to Parliament on that day as there was no fuel available. He hit out that the Police prevented them from entering the Parliament premises.
