For the third consecutive week, Sri Lanka Freedom Party Cabinet Co-spokesperson Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara avoided media at the cabinet press briefing, raising questions on his absence.
His Cabinet colleagues and Co-spokespersons UNP seniors Rajitha Senaratne and Gayantha Karunathilaka failed to answer when asked if the Sports Minister’s absence was due to the continuing rift between the Coalition parties.
The two ministers instead attempted to make light of the situation, and only said that Jayasekara has informed them that he was unable to attend.
“He has not told us anything else, and we didn’t ask him about it as we take for granted he would come for the briefing,” Senaratne told reporters who queried about the SLFP Ministers absence. The Minister also insisted that there was no issue as Jayasekara actively participated in the Cabinet meeting. (CD)
