A group of United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarians is expected to turn independent soon, due to the current political scenario.
A senior politician of the Party told Ceylon Today that at least 40 members, all Parliamentarians, have shown interest in joining this independent organization.
According to him, this group is ready to break away, if the party leader, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, does not act on the promises he made with regards to the party's leadership.
He also noted that several members are contemplating, resigning from organisational positions in order to walk out independently. He added that this group includes senior ministers, State ministers and deputy ministers.
