Responding to allegations of the JO made against the Government over the economic crisis in the country, the UNP said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Government was responsible for the current economic crisis.
Speaking at a Media briefing at UNP Headquarters, Sirikotha, Parliamentarian Dr. Kavinda Jayawardane said wasteful developmental projects of the previous Government and the related debt burden put the country into an economic crisis which was difficult to overcome.
Claiming that his Government had to pay the loans of the previous government, he claimed that his Government was paying for the sins of the Rajapaksa and the corrupt previous regime.
The MP claimed that it was former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who sold thousands of acres to foreign countries.
The MP noted that despite economic problems, the Government had been giving compensation to the poor people, developing infrastructure, empowering youth while keeping democracy and freedom alive.
