A protest was organized in the Beliatta Town on 8 October to oppose the alleged conspiracy to assassinate former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The protesters were seen displaying placards and banners demanding that those behind the alleged assassination plot brought to book and punished accordingly.
They were also seen demanding the arrest of Deputy Inspector General of Police Nalaka de Silva in connection with the alleged plot. The protesters who staged the protest near the Beliatta Pradeshiya Sabha then proceeded along to the Beliatta Town and the bus depot before ending the demonstration.
The protest was organized by a group of Joint Opposition Parliamentarians and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Members of the said Pradeshiya Sabha.
Boutiques in the Beliatta Town were shut down on 8 October in support of the demonstration.
