Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna General Secretary Tilvin Silva said that what the masses select at national elections were not Governments, but groups of thieves and robbers who carry out both small and large scale thefts and robberies.
Silva made this remark during a public rally organized by his Party and held in the Methagama area in Kotmale on 13 October.
Speaking further, he said, “All State sector workers are given the opportunity to purchase a vehicle through a permit after five years. Now that permit has been suspended and having done so the Government claimed that they had suspended the same permit given to the Ministers as well. That is nothing but a blatant lie. All Ministers by that time had finished purchasing vehicles. They only did that to hurt the State sector workers. The elite swelled their coffers and they took the decision to prevent the lower class from enjoying similar riches. Now the Government is telling the people to limit the costs. Look where the President and the Prime Minister are right now. Both are trying to outdo one another in terms of going abroad. They spend public finances to go on such jaunts. The President recently took a group of 63 to the United Nations in New York.
They have a jolly time overseas and when they return they advise us to curtail our expenses. These people cannot solve the burning issues of the people and they are only good at deceiving the masses.”
