Govt Orders Probe into IGP on Public Complaint Conduct Unbecoming

Controversies surrounding the Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara reached a turning point yesterday with the Ministry of Law and Order being ordered to conduct a ministerial probe on the conduct of the country’s top policeman and submit a report in two weeks to Minister Ranjith Maddumabandara.


Vouchers destroyed on Aloysius’ order

Deputy Solicitor General (DSG), President’s Counsel (PC) Yasantha Kodagoda yesterday (13), informed Colombo Fort Chief Magistrate, Lanka Jayaratne, that the Attorney General’s Department has come across evidence to suggest that 102 vouchers containing primary dealer Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) money given to other parties, through the W.M. Mendis and Company, had been destroyed.


CID wants to question Gota and Fonseka again

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday (10), informed Additional Magistrate Mount Lavinia (MTL), Lochana Abeywickrema that they will need to once again record statements from former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and former Army Commander Field Marshal and Minister Sarath Fonseka in connection with the journalist Keith Noyahr, abduction and assault case.


Vijayakala’s pro-LTTE statement AG instructs IGP to file suit

The Attorney General (AG) has instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take legal action against former State Minister of Children and Women’s Affairs Vijayakala Maheswaran for allegedly making statements to the effect that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam should be re-established and thereby allegedly causing disharmony amongst the ethnic communities.
