SSP complains against IGP to CIABOC

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Palitha R. Siriwardena levelled allegations of corruption against Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara yesterday (6).

In a letter addressed to Chairman of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), T.B. Weerasuriya, SSP Siriwardena had stated that Jayasundara has committed an act of corruption under Section 70 of the Bribery Act.

Speaking to Ceylon Today, Siriwardena said that in March, five SSPs including him, were promoted to the position of Acting Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) by the National Police Commission. However, he alleged that Jayasundara has not approved his promotion and had only approved the remaining four promotions.

“The IGP has a personal grudge against me and under Section 70 of the Bribery Act this constitutes an act of corruption. When he was previously a DIG, I revealed an injustice that he had done to a lot of officers and we had a big argument with each other in front of the officers concerned.

Now that he is the IGP, he is trying to take revenge for this in all sorts of ways. He first tried to transfer me from my current division in Kilinochchi. I filed a case against that in the Supreme Court (SC). Now, he’s not approving my promotion.”

Siriwardena further added that he has filed another case against Jayasundara in the SC for withholding his promotion.
