MPs and public officers who benefitted from Aloysius Ravana Balaya lodges complaint with CIABOC

The Ravana Balaya organization, yesterday, (11) lodged a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) urging an inquiry into parliamentarians and State officials who have obtained monies from tainted primary dealer Perpetual Treasuries Limited and/or its Beneficiary cum owner Arjun Aloysius and/or from associate Companies.

Aloysius and Chief Executive Officer of the primary bidder Kasun Palisena are presently in remand custody over the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Treasury Bonds scam while former CBSL Governor Arjuna Mahendran is overseas, evading arrest.

General Secretary of the Ravana Balaya, Iththekande Sadhdhathissa told Ceylon Today that they had been informed by the CIABOC at the time of submitting the complaint that there was a CIABOC investigation only against MP Dayasiri Jayasekara in this regard.

“Apart from Jayasekara, State Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe and Minister Field Marshal, Sarath Fonseka, too, have accepted that they received monies from the primary dealer or Aloysius or affiliate Companies.

Senasinghe has stated that he is willing to return the sums thus received to charity if a request to do so is made from certain parties.

This is futile as it does not undo the wrong that has been committed by obtaining the monies.

Jayasekara and Senasinghe were Members of the Committee on Public Enterprises at a time when the Committee was probing the said scam.

In this context, when public admissions are being made, and a ‘B’
Report has been filed in Court in this regard, why are they not being arrested and punished according to the law?”

When queried as to whether Senasinghe and Fonseka were also being investigated in this connection, Commissioner C. Neville Guruge noted that while Jayasekara was being investigated, he could not comment on the others owing to secrecy laws.

“However, as Commissioners, we do not know whether a complaint was made because we get to know about complaints only when we are informed of them,” he further said.
