Police aided in Digana riots - Dilum

Police aided in Digana riots - Dilum

Joint Opposition (JO) Parliamentarian Dilum Amunugama claimed that the Police had also aided those involved in the riots that took place in Digana, Kandy.

Speaking at a JO press conference yesterday (17), Amunugama showed several stills taken from Closed Circuit Television camera footage, which were allegedly taken from the cameras near the Poojapitiya Welekada Mosque in Kandy. He further claimed that some of these stills show Policemen aiding rioters to enter into the mosque.

Commenting on the Terrorist Investigation Division’s (TID) summoning him in relation to the violence that raged in Kandy in March, Amunugama further said that he was one of the first people who went to intervene and subdue the riots in Digana, Kandy.

“Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Leader and Minister Rauff Hakeem acknowledged that I was the person who intervened to subdue this riot, and even Minister Rishad Bathiudeen acknowledged it. When Muslim leaders are saying this, the Government is putting the blame on, what they and the Police couldn’t control, our heads. They are only taking action against those who oppose them,” he added.
