SLFP Group of 16 up in arms

SLFP Group of 16 up in arms

The SLFP breakaway group is up in arms over an alleged attempt by former Central Bank Governor, Arjuna Mahendran to be involved in the Sri Lanka-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (SLSFTA) and urges President Maithripala Sirisena to take action. It is alleged that Mahendran was attempting to function as the intermediary in SLSFTA.

MP Dayasiri Jayasekera said, since this was a serious issue they will, as a Group, urge President Sirisena to look into the matter and take necessary steps.

Jayasekera added that Mahendran, while serving as CBSL Governor, had shown interest in formulating the Agreement and warned that a person already implicated in a scam, being associated with such an Agreement was not a matter that could be overlooked.
