Suspected WelE Suda accomplice nabbed

A man suspected to be one of the main accomplices of incarcerated drug kingpin Wele Suda was arrested yesterday (15), with heroin worth over Rs 20.5 million, said Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara.

The arrest was made on 14 June evening by the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) near the suspect’s temporary residence in Piliyandala, where he was found with 2.2 kilograms of heroin, two firearms, live bullets, three mobile phones along with 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery in his possession.  

According to Police, the suspect, Mastiange Don Pradeep Nishantha Appuhami, 35, was reportedly residing temporarily in a house in Piliyandala. The suspect was produced before the Kesbewa Magistrate yesterday.

Meanwhile, according to reliable sources, Wele Suda has denied claims that the suspect was an accomplice and has stated that the drugs belonged to another party. His family will submit a complaint to the IGP and Head of the PNB on his behalf on 18 June.
