The Department of Meteorology predicts showers or thundershowers over most places of the island particularly after 2.00 p.m.
Showers may occur in coastal areas of Western Province and Galle and Matara Districts during the mornings too.
Fairly heavy falls above 75mm can be expected at some places in the Central, Uva, Southern and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa Districts.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
Winds will be South-westerly in direction and wind speed will be 25-35 kmph in the sea areas around the island.
The sea areas extending from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil, can be fairly rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 40-50 kmph at times. Temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) yesterday (14) issued landslide early warnings to the Kalutara and Galle Districts.
Accordingly, yellow and amber warnings were issued to the Horana, Dodangoda, Madurawala, Kalutara, Walallawita, Bulathsinhala, Agalawatta, Mathugama, Palindanuwara and Ingiriya Divisional Secretariat Divisions of the Kalutara District while the Neluwa, Thawalama, Elpitiya, Niyagama, Nagoda, Baddegama, Yakkalamulla Divisional Secretariat areas received the landslide risk warnings.
