Wasantha and Vadivel rejoin ‘Govt’

Parliamentarians Wasantha Senanayake and Vadivel Suresh have assumed duties as the Minister of Wildlife and Tourism and Minister of Plantation Industries, respectively, in the current Government, Parliamentarian Rohitha Abeygunawardena said yesterday (16).

He was speaking at a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Media briefing at the Party Headquarters.

When queried by journalists whether switching to and fro between parties was ethical, he replied that this was definitely a serious problem.

“There is a serious problem in this sort of behaviour. This is why we want to call a General Election, then the people can decide on what kind of politicians they want to elect. People will then be able to vote for those that they see fit, and do away with those that they believe are unsuitable,” he added.

However, when queried whether the Party that persuaded the politicians to switch sides in the first place holds any blame, Abeygunawardena added that this struggle was not for power but for the betterment of the country.

Senanayake and Suresh defected to ousted United National Front Government on 14 November after crossing over to the purported Government formed by President Maithripala Sirisena and appointed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa a few weeks back.
