Champika spells doom for illegal construction

Firing the first salvo against illegal structures in Colombo, Megapolis and Western Development Minister Champika Ranawaka said yesterday his Ministry has lodged over 4,000 cases against illegal construction, with 18 more to be rolled out in the coming days including multi-storey apartment buildings built onto canal reservations.


Namal’s lawsuit against FCID fixed for trial

Colombo Additional District Judge, Chamath Madanayake yesterday (2) overruled objections brought by...... the Attorney General and fixed the two cases, filed by Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, against the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID), for trial on 12 July. Namal Rajapaksa has sued the Officer-in-Charge of the FCID, R.A.K. Premaratne, and FCID Sub-Inspector Vithanage Shanthalal, claiming Rs 100 million from each, in damages for defamation of his character.
