‘Anguru Kaka Wathura Bibi Kolamba Duwana Yakada Yaka’ this is a famous phrase of a popular poem we sang when we were schoolchildren as the trains of that time were mainly steam powered by coal and water, before the diesel train engines were introduced to the Ceylon Government Railway (CGR) then, and now, the Sri Lanka Railway. As proof of the above poem, to date, there is an iconic landmark of an old black rounded water tank belonging to the Kelani Valley railway track, standing majestically at the Avissawella Railway Station.

NINE MEDALS AT THE CULINARY ART COMPETITION 2017

The Jungle Beach culinary team participated in the ‘Culinary Art and Food Expo 2017’ held at the BMICH, where they won 9 medals in total: a significant accomplishment in the UGA culinary history. The event,which is one of the biggest culinary exhibitions in Asia, was organised by the Chefs Guild of Lanka, affiliated with the World Association of Chefs’ Societies (WACS) which has a membership of 110 countries in total.

DIASPORA MISLED

I think that the government is treading a progressive path. However, there are problems and issues pertaining to the minorities. They should be solved through negotiations. That is the correct way to approach them. But I would like to see the issues addressed at a much quicker pace.
